A Redeemed Halloween
By Sarah Davies, Director of Children’s Ministry
For most of my life, I associated October 31st with ghouls, goblins, and ghosts. Yet the more I learn about Halloween's traditions and its Christian origins, the more I feel curiosity and wonder about All Hallowtide, the three-day celebration of the saints and souls who belong to Jesus.
Today, this celebration gives me space to remember the many saints who have come before me. Saints I read about in the Bible and history books, and saints I knew and loved before they departed this earth.
We are surrounded by this Cloud of Witnesses, and it's a great comfort to be reminded that life in this broken world is finite, and those who have loved God since the dawn of time continue to cheer us on as we wake each new day and grab hold of what's ahead. May this Halloween season be redeemed for you as it has been for me!
